Highways: Delayed scheme under way

 
Balfour Beatty is due to start work on the £7M West Auckland bypass this Monday (14 August).
Construction of the 1.5-mile, single-carriageway road was originally due to start in August 2004 but was delayed by a public inquiry. The secretary of state eventually ruled in favour of Durham County Council.
