High price paid for abuse

An Essex council is losing out on income from parking fines – because it can’t hire enough wardens.
Abuse from motorists and poor career prospects are cited as reasons why Rochford District Council is struggling to gain the revenue it hoped for.
It was estimated parking fines would bring in £83,000 in six months, but the actual total is only £60,000. A council spokeswoman said: ‘The retention of parking attendants has been an issue, due to the nature of the post and how motorists perceive them.
‘It is anticipated a reduction in the revised estimates will be made.’
