Herts and EDF link to repair streetworks

Hertfordshire County Council and EDF Energy have signed a partnership to improve all street works carried out by both organisations across the county.

The partnership aims to ensure both parties work closer so that all works are well planned and carried out with minimal disruption to drivers and pedestrians. Since the launch, joint workshops have been set up looking at better ways of working together and understanding each other’s priorities and practices.

Richard Wakelen, head of Street Works for EDF Energy Networks, said: ‘This partnership will enable a greater understanding of the needs of each business. It will drive more efficient and improved service delivery for utility and highway works to the benefit of customers.

‘Moreover, it recognises that conflict between contractors, utilities and highways authorities can be significantly reduced by better communication and greater understanding.’

Mike Younghusband, head of the transport programmes & strategy unit at Hertfordshire County Council, said: ‘There is much we can learn from each other through the partnership approach to ensure that both businesses can meet the requirements of the TMA.

‘With the resulting improvements in working practices, communication and understanding, HCC will become better placed to demonstrate the necessary parity when dealing with utilities and its own highway operations.’
