Hereford’s restoration of Victorian bridge wins top engineering award

Restoration work carried out at Hereford’s Victoria Bridge has been awarded an excellent rating as part of the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Award Scheme.

Grade two-listed, Victoria Bridge was built in 1898 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The work included removal of rust and paint, steelwork repairs, strengthening, re-painting, footway replacement and timber matching the original, and restoration of decorative features.

In May this year, the bridge work won the main project accolade at the annual awards of the Institution of Civil Engineers West Midlands and was also named best civil engineering project in the West Midlands.
