Heart attack leaves Office villain laid flat out

Slough’s infamous Brunel roundabout and underpasses will soon be no more, as part of a major £400M makeover involving significant infrastructure works in the town centre.
The recently-announced long-term Heart of Slough project includes a revised road layout, a new bus station and public recreation space, and 1,300 new homes. The roundabout, which featured on the BBC TV comedy The Office, will be flattened and replaced with a crossroads and a tree-lined boulevard.
‘It will make this a far more attractive environment,’ Slough Borough Council property devices assistant director, Andy Algar, said. The council, which is working with English Partnerships, aims to create improved public transport, new urban open spaces, and sustainable and energy-efficient housing and commercial buildings.
The total investment of the council and English Partnerships will amount to more than £200M, with extra external funding sourced from other organisations, including South East Arts, European Equal, and a Creative Industries Enterprise Hub funded by SEEDA at Thames University. The outline planning applications are expected to be submitted in June, with the road works commencing in June 2008. The project is expected to take up to 10 years to complete.
