Hats off to wig-wearing commuters not afraid to overstep the mark

Commuters dressed in Dolly Parton wigs paraded across Tower Bridge last Thursday as part of the first-ever Walk to Work Day, which coincided with the launch of the new ‘Walking works’ campaign.
The Dolly Parton theme was adopted in the morning rush-hour parade to highlight the day’s message of ‘Walking 9 to 5’.
This was followed by the official launch of the Walking works campaign, run by Living Streets and funded with £150,000 over three years by Transport for London.
Walking works aims to show London’s workers that being more active on their daily commute will benefit their physical and mental wellbeing. Ben Plowden, programme director of travel demand management at TfL, said: ‘We hope more people will realise just how quick and enjoyable walking in the capital can be.’
