Hastings battle goes public

The public inquiry to consider the compulsory purchase of land for the Bexhill to Hastings link road will start on 10 November 2009.

When the application for the link road was considered in December 2008, strict assurances were required to be made prior to the granting of planning permission, including measures to reduce its impact on the environment.

The council has been negotiating with landowners to purchase land needed both directly for the link road and for environmental habitats to replace those affected by the road, and has issued compulsory purchase orders (CPOs). The public inquiry will consider objections to these CPOs.
