Harsh lessons for those parents who idle away the hours

Glasgow City Council is targeting areas outside 261 nurseries and primary schools to cut air pollution by erecting new warning signs about illegal vehicle idling.
Some 350 yellow signs are intended to remind drivers that sitting parked in a car with the engine running is illegal, and offenders can be fined a fixed penalty of £20, under the Road Traffic (Vehicle Emissions) (Fixed Penalty) (Scotland) Regulations 2003. The initiative is part of a £100,000 advertising campaign which aims to reduce vehicle emissions and cut vehicle idling. The Scottish Executive paid £12,000 to buy and erect the new signs. New enforcement rules that will exist from August will also make stopping on zig-zag lines outside schools an offence.
