Harrogate BC has approved plans to spend £9,000 on body cameras to help ensure the safety of local traffic wardens.
The council plans to purchase 23 cameras and three docking stations and share the £9,100 cost with North Yorkshire, Craven and Selby Councils, the BBC reports.
The move was approved following a spate of eight physical assaults and six incidents of verbal abuse on traffic wardens since 2013. Police have issued three cautions, a fixed penalty notice and obtained one prosecution, with two prosecutions pending.
The move means Harrogate joins a growing list of local authorities including Mid Sussex, Gwynedd and Peterborough Councils all of which have approved plans to fit wardens with the cameras.
