Haringey admits parking charge error

Haringey Council has admitted raising £168,000 in unlawful penalty charge notices.

The north London borough fined motorists for parking in a box junction, but said it ceased enforcement in March 2006, after realising ‘it did not comply with the technical regulations’. It gave refunds to motorists who appealed.

‘There were 3,721 PCNs issued before 16 March and 25 after this date, which were issued in error,’ a spokesperson said. ‘Of the 3,746 PCNs, 2,627 were paid and 1,119 were cancelled or written off. The revenue raised was £168,000.’
