Hampshire County Council has unveiled plans to invest £209m in infrastructure over the next three years.
The overall spending proposals have been approved by the executive member for environment and transport, Cllr Rob Humby, but still need to go to full council on 16 February as part of Hampshire’s decision on its capital and revenue budget for 2017/18.
The council is also hoping for third party funding from groups such as local enterprise partnerships on some of the schemes, such as the £34m Stubbington Bypass in Fareham.
Major highway schemes make up £100m of the proposed investment, including new projects expected to start in the next couple of years provided external funding can be secured.
Highways schemes include:
- M27 Junction 9 and the R1 roundabout, Fareham (£19.6m)
- Newgate Lane South, Fareham (£9.5m)
- Farnborough Corridor (£8m)
- A30 Thorneycroft Roundabout, Basingstoke (£7.6m)
- Whitehill / Bordon A325 Integration (£4m)
- Redbridge Lane Roundabout, Nursling (£2.5m)
Cllr Humby said: 'This planned investment programme would see us make use of Government grants, bids and developer contributions over the next three years to improve transport infrastructure for people who live and work in Hampshire.
'The number of new schemes planned in this period demonstrates the council’s ability and experience in successfully leveraging national funds for the benefit of Hampshire. Our capacity and expertise allows us to deliver a large scale, high quality programme of improvements such as this - which will also attract economic growth and spend in the county.'
Road and bridge maintenance makes up £108m of the planned budget, with the remaining budget set aside for the county’s Flood Risk and Coastal Defence Programme.
The local authority is also working with the Environment Agency to secure national funding.
