Hackney’s growing fanbase

Hackney Council has been commended by the London Assembly for its efforts in fighting street tree loss in the borough.
The council has co-ordinated a programme with the charity Groundwork East London to plant 1,000 more street trees in the area by 2010, and is getting the local community involved in planting, sponsoring and adopting street trees.
The assembly’s environment committee visited the borough as part of its investigation into the loss of street trees in London.
