HGVs face 20mph restriction

The speed limit for lorries in a Leicestershire village could be cut to 20mph, while remaining at 30mph for all other vehicles.

Leicestershire County Council has written to the Department for Transport seeking permission to run the ground-breaking experiment on the B4114 in Sharnford.

New, ‘clever’ signs which can spot heavy goods vehicles would also be used to flash the appropriate speed limit at the traffic.

David Parsons, leader of the county council, said: ‘We need to do something to help the people of Sharnford with their problem, but cannot take any action which simply serves to transfer it to another community.’
