Green light for Crossrail

Crossrail leapt its final hurdle this week when it was given Royal Assent in Parliament.

Approval of the Act means the scheme is on target to be delivered for 2017, with enabling work starting next year. The line will run from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, under central London to Abbey Wood and Shenfield in the east.

The Crossrail Act grants the powers to acquire land needed for the project. Transport minister, Ruth Kelly, said she was ‘delighted that…work can finally begin to deliver this fantastic project’.
