Government’s litter ‘shame’

Westminster City Council has named and shamed the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for being among the worst government offices for staff throwing away cigarette butt litter.
Daily surveys by a senior environmental health officer have highlighted DEFRA along with the Department of Educations and Skills and the Department for Trade and Industry as being the worst litter culprits.
The Department for Transport escapes censure from the council but the Home Office wins special praise for good practice by providing cigarette bins for the use of staff ahead of the 1 July smoking ban.
