Government looking at transport governance

The Government is 'looking closely' at transport governance structures as part of its drive to strengthen city regions, local government secretary Ruth Kelly has revealed.
Kelly, responding to a question from a Durham councillor during an on-line debate, denied that cities and towns outside city regions such as Durham would lose out. Councillor Albert Nugent also pressed for evidence on the so-called 'ripple-out effect' - that outlying areas would benefit from improving the economic performance of city regions - but Kelly did not produce any during the debate.
