Good parliamentary mix will be the talk of Westminster

A stretch of London’s Abingdon Street in Westminster is being relaid with concrete made exclusively from recycled aggregates.

The work is being carried out by FM Conway for client Parliamentary Works Services Directorate, as part of its West One joint venture contract. Influenced by the risk of potential terrorist attacks, the road has been redesigned from four lanes to two narrower lanes, with the erection of kerbside crash barriers adjacent to the parliament building.

The concrete, used as road base and bedding for heavy granite kerbs, is mixed and batched on-site in a Reimer Volumetric lorry-mounted mixer. All materials and water are stored in separate compartments.
