A scheme giving Great Yarmouth’s ‘golden mile’ a £6M makeover, providing the seafront resort with a Continental feel, was unveiled last week, in time for the summer tourist season.
Designed by Mott MacDonald and built by May Gurney, the first phase of a wider £16.3M project involved reducing the 20m-wide dual carriageway to an 8m route, creating an open paved area, with extended pedestrian links to the town centre, granite seating, and uplighters installed in the paving. The next phase, to start after the summer season, will involve enhacing more than three kilometres of the seafront area and providing additional avenues to the town centre.
