Harrow council has replaced its town centre street cleaners with an all-electric fleet, in a bid to cut its carbon footprint.
The London borough began using the Glutton vehicle for all town-centre cleaning this week.
The electric cart can work for up to nine hours before needing to be re-charged, has a 240l container to collect litter, and costs less than 1p a mile to run.
Cllr Susan Hall, the council’s portfolio holder for environment services, said: ‘Electric vehicles are obviously environmentally-friendly and anything we can do to reduce emissions helps. Cleaner and safer streets are an absolute priority for us, so residents can look forward to seeing these vehicles out and about, making that happen.’
