Gloucestershire's £92M PFI credits for waste disposal

Gloucestershire County Council has been awarded £92M in public-finance initiative credits to build new waste-management facilities in the county.

The council will be issuing its notice to prospective bidders in the Official Journal of European Union in the new year.
Deciding on the technology and location will take about two years. The county council insists it will consider all technology options during the procurement process.

Environment minister, Jane Kennedy, said of the announcement: ‘This will create a real incentive for the authority and industry to work together to reduce waste, and make better use of the waste that is produced, as well as reducing our impact on the environment.’

The project is part of the Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy.
