Glencoe bridge will be "an asset for beauty spot"

A new bridge on a key route through Glencoe opened this week, providing access to the Highlands and Western Isles.
The new Lairig Eilde Bridge replaces the previous structure built in the 1930’s, which was in poor condition and too costly to repair. It carries traffic travelling on the A82 across the River Coe into the entrance of Glencoe. The new bridge features a viewing galley for visitors to safely enjoy the stunning scenery and the waterfall, and the project also includes two new lay-bys and a new car park north of the bridge.
Opening the bridge, transport minister
Tavish Scott said: ‘This work has ensured future access to areas of historic, environmental and cultural interest for visitors to one of Scotland’s most dramatic locations. ‘It also provides a much-needed upgrade on what is a vital link road for local communities.’ The A82 Lairig Eilde Bridge is the first of a £12M programme of 11 bridges through Rannoch Moor and Glencoe that will be either replaced or strengthened.
