Glasgow buoyant after Lottery win

The streets of one of Glasgow’s most deprived areas are to be regenerated, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Glasgow’s historic Govan Cross, once famous for shipbuilding, will receive a grant of £939,000, plus £25,000 of development funding, to enable the local community to revitalise the area.

The scheme will focus on the Pearce Institute, a striking example of Edwardian architecture, and its surrounding buildings and streets.

The project forms part of Glasgow City Council’s Central Govan Action Plan. The money is part of HLF’s Townscape Heritage Initiative, which funds the regeneration of conservation areas of a town or city suffering from social and economic problems. A total of 13 towns and cities were awarded almost £13M collectively.
