Gates will give motorists a break from post-incident delays

Post-incident congestion relief should be secured for motorists in Leicestershire by the provision of emergency crossover gates, according to Highways Agency managing agent, Optima.
The two emergency crossover gates would allow police to clear congestion by U-turning delayed motorists through the central reserve of the A42.
Each 16m-long gate isopened simply by sliding it back, although Optima stressed that they had the same restraint capabilities as traditional safety fencing.
Adrian Oulds, Optima delivery team leader, said: ‘It will be interesting to see how beneficial they are. We anticipate installation of similar crossovers elsewhere on the Area 11 network in the near future.’
