Further delays to busway scheme

Cambridgeshire’s guided busway has been hit by another delay.

The council has slammed its contractor, BAM Nuttall, after it was told building work would be delayed by a further month.

Work will now not be finished on the busway until January 2011 – nearly two years late.

Cambridgeshire CC said the firm’s construction programme had suggested the work would be finished in December, and senior staff had assured that would be the case, but that prediction has now been proved wrong.

Cllr Roy Pegram, cabinet member for infrastructure, said: ‘To say I am angry with BAM Nuttall’s attitude towards completing the project is an understatement.

‘They have left simple tasks that could have been completed at any point over the last four years to the last minute and once again delayed this project for the people of Cambridgeshire.’
