Fuel costs hit Hull services

Stagecoach has axed two bus routes in Hull, due to soaring fuel costs.

The company is dropping the number 9 and 49 services, and altering 17 other routes in the city. East Yorkshire Motor Services is also to withdraw five of its bus routes.

Tony Fieldsend, from Stagecoach, said: ‘Both of the journeys were subsidised by Hull City Council. ‘Passenger numbers on these services were so low that the increase in the cost of fuel – while we previously cross-subsidised services – got to such a level that we could no longer afford to offer the services.’
