London boroughs have launched a campaign to secure extra funding to cover the cost of providing older and disabled visitors to the capital with free travel.
London boroughs spend some £227M a year to run the Freedom Pass free travel scheme in the capital, but now the Government has set aside £212M to help encourage free travel schemes in other local authority areas. Cllr Daniel Moylan, chairman of London Councils’ transport and environment committee, said: ‘We welcome all visitors to this great city but we should not have to pay to enable them to travel around it.
