Free rides for Dial-a-Rides

Dial-a-Ride fares for older and disabled people in London will be scrapped in the new year, mayor Ken Livingstone has announced.

The move would benefit around 50,000 Londoners who currently pay to take 1.2M journeys a year. Dial-a-Ride is a door-to-door transport service provided by Transport for London for older and disabled people who cannot use buses, trains and the Tube.

It is used for journeys for shopping, visiting friends and family, doctors and dentists appointments and evenings out. Speaking at Disability Capital, the mayor said he had taken this step as part of his commitment to provide equal access to public transport for all Londoners.
