Free Sundays remain sacred

An attempt to end free Sunday parking in the centre of Manchester has been scrapped after protests from businesses.
Manchester City Council believed the city centre was too congested on Sundays with shoppers pouring in, encouraged by free parking. The council thought the best plan was to follow the initiative taken in 2003 when free Saturday parking was abolished. However, when the authority unveiled plans to end the free scheme the response from residents and businesses was ‘overwhelmingly’ for keeping it.
