The Beatle’s Abbey Road album cover was recreated to celebrate completion of the Leighton Buzzard traffic calming scheme.
The scheme, which was started in September by the former Bedfordshire County Council, involved replacing the majority of traffic lights in the town with roundabouts and zebra crossings. Several 20mph zones have also been introduced, and major improvements made between Old Road and Leston Street.
Cllr Peter Snelling, Central Bedfordshire’s executive member for safer communities, said: ‘This scheme should help improve traffic flow, journey times and safety for motorists and pedestrians. Bedfordshire Highways will be monitoring the traffic flow and pedestrian movement over the next few months to see how the scheme is working.’
Central Bedfordshire Council’s highways team and local councillors from Leighton Buzzard ‘came together’ to re-enact the Abbey Road scene featuring the ‘Fab Four’.
