‘Four barriers’ to recycling

 
Four main barriers stop people recycling more, according to new research from the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

The study found that the barriers were: physical; behavioural; lack of knowledge; and attitudes and perceptions.

WRAP found very different messages and actions were needed by local authorities to overcome these barriers.

These included: improving recycling collection services; providing better information and practical advice on how to use the service; and showing why taking part was worthwhile.
