Food waste collection trial

Aberdeenshire Council is to trial a new weekly food waste collection in part of the north of the county after receiving funding from the Scottish Executive.

Food waste is to be collected from around 5,000 properties in the Banff area, before being taken to a processing plant to be turned into compost. The scheme will involve a dedicated vehicle collecting a 25litre bin weekly from householders.

The council is awaiting formal confirmation of the £148,000 offer indicated by the Scottish Executive, but the council hopes to start the trial within the next four months.
