Food unit helps meet UK appetite for sustainability

PDM Group has announced plans to become the UK’s largest anaerobic digestion (AD) plant operator, in order to retain its position as the country’s ‘most successful food waste processor’.

The company has submitted a planning request for an AD plant at its Doncaster headquarters. If approved, the unit will be the first in a national programme which will see the group building AD plants alongside its existing UK food waste-processing facilities.

PDM Group’s commercial director, Philip Simpson, said increased demand for sustainable food waste recycling, and the proposed additional Renewable Obligation Certificate credits, had made anaerobic digestion more attractive.

Additional AD plants were planned for PDM processing sites in the Southwest, Southeast, London, the Midlands, Northwest and northern England, the company said.
