Floods delay launch of decriminalised parking

The introduction of decriminalised parking in Gloucestershire will be delayed by five weeks, due to the impact of the summer floods.

Councils across the county will now take over parking enforcement from police on 5 November, delayed from 1 October. The decision was taken ‘after extraordinary work was needed to manage the impact of the floods’.

Cllr Stan Waddington, Gloucestershire’s cabinet member for environment, said: ‘The county council, police and district councils are working to a tight timetable and key staff were needed to deal with the floods.’

Gloucestershire Highways contractors are completing a countywide programme re-marking faded road lines and replacing damaged or missing parking signs. Civil Parking Enforcement will be introduced in the districts of Cheltenham, Cotswold, Gloucester, Stroud and Tewkesbury.
