The Local Government Association has called for the ‘woefully inadequate’ funding for flood defences to be raised.
As councils prepare for a new round of shoreline management plans, the LGA said the £75M for council-run schemes was not enough, given the need identified by authorities. Schemes in Felixstowe and Scarborough were on hold this year as a result.
Environment spokesman for the LGA, Cllr David Sparks, said: ‘The fund needs to be drastically increased to make sure councils are able to protect towns and villages.’
