The Scottish Government is considering whether to establish a national authority for flooding.

The issue of a single agency to coordinate flood response was raised last week at Scotland’s first-ever summit on flooding.

Cabinet secretary for rural affairs and the environment, Richard Lochhead, said current flooding legislation ‘is no longer fit for the requirements of the 21st century’ and added: ‘We must now be more proactive about tackling flooding and consider whether there is a need for a national authority for flooding.’
