First hybrid double-decker proves capital has motif to cut CO2 emissions

A hybrid double-decker bus went into service in the capital this week, in what Transport for London claims is a world first.
Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, recently announced plans for an increased hybrid bus fleet for the capital as part of proposals to cut London’s carbon dioxide emissions. The buses use a combination of diesel and electric power, and a leafy motif on the vehicles will help passengers recognise their status.
The bus will operate on Route 141, run by Arriva, from Palmers Green to London Bridge Station. Livingstone said: ‘Hybrid vehicles emit less harmful emissions, helping improve air quality and tackle climate change. ‘I repeat my call for bus manufacturers and operators to rise to the challenge of making hybrid buses more financially feasible, so we can speed up their introduction across London.’
