First defends new Glasgow 'Simplicity' services

First Glasgow has been criticised for changes to its new 'Simplicty' bus routing following the implementation of the scheme last weekend.

The project saw a number of routes re-numbered or changed with the introduction of more frequent buses and free wifi across services.

But new timetables were not put in place at all stops when the changes were put in place, and the company were still updating stops, a spokeswoman told the Scotsman.

Numerous passengers took to social media to complain about the lack of information and confusion regarding the changes to services.

A spokeswoman said: 'Glasgow and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport have been working closely together to update timetable information at bus stops.

‘Teams began working through the night from Thursday. To have started sooner would have confused customers.'

Glasgow MSP Patrick Harvie told the Scotsman: 'First has been planning this change for some time, and it’s simply not good enough to leave people wondering what’s going on.

'I saw a couple of updated sites and many that were still showing old information. There certainly appears to be a rather haphazard approach to updating the information.

'Electronic displays seemed to be all over the place. I’m told some of the data for the new timetables was loaded into them last Tuesday, and curiously some of the displays I saw on Saturday were stuck at Tuesday afternoon.

'The display boards are only of any use if people know they can be relied upon.'
