Firms shortlisted for Staffordshire project

Staffordshire County Council has shortlisted five waste management companies in the last stages of selecting a contractor to operate its proposed new energy-from-waste facility.

The five companies are Convanta Energy, MVVUmvelt Gmbh, Shanks Waste Management, SITA UK, and Veolia ES Aurora.

The project, which has already received backing from the Government to the tune of £122.4M, will save Staffordshire taxpayers a projected £7.5M every year for the next 25 years.

Staffordshire’s plans for a facility on the Four Ashes industrial estate in the south of the county are well advanced and have been out for consultation since the summer. A planning authority decision is due this autumn.

Council leader John Taylor said the team was determined to get the best deal for the people of Staffordshire.
