Firms named in line-up to deliver Olympic infrastructure

The Olympic Development Authority has announced the contracts to deliver the first package of highways and bridges infrastructure.

Skanska Construction, Edmund Nuttall and Balfour Beatty will collectively build around 8kms of roads through the Olympic Park, and almost 20 roads and footbridges over four lots.

Skanska Construction has been selected for Lot 1 – Olympic Park North civils, roads and bridges; Edmund Nuttall for Lot 2 – Olympics Park South civils, roads and bridges; and Balfour Beatty has been selected for Lot 3 – rail over-bridges, and Lot 4 – main stadium area bridges.

The first works will start in 2008.

ODA director of infrastructure, Simon Wright, said: ‘Securing world-class firms for these key contracts is an important step forwards, and paves the way for us to start work on this essential infrastructure later this year to help us create an open and accessible park in games’ time and in legacy.’

Smaller packages of work within the structures, bridges and highways projects also went out to tender last year, including the wetlands area bridges contract and the central park footbridge contract.
