Birse Civils has moved a 1,200t, 33-metre road bridge over nine metres into a new position as part of the £28M A228 West Malling bypass contract for ~Kent County Council~.
The Lavenders Road bridge was moved along its centreline on to new abutments to allow for widening of the A228 carriageway, using self-propelled modular transporter beds. It was moved to a temporary position the week before to minimise disruption to traffic, the firm said.
Birse worked with Kent’s design team Peter Brett Associates, while the SPMT beds were provided by Abnormal Load Engineering.
