Firm to sue over contract

Lancashire County Council is being sued by a recycling firm for damages after not being awarded a multimillion-pound waste contract.

Environmental Waste Controls (EWC) claimed its bid to run 23 household waste recycling centres in the county was better for the environment as well as more than £3M cheaper than the contract the council agreed with rival firm Nita.

Steve Browne, Lancashire’s director of waste and natural resources, said the council was now awaiting the outcome, which the judge indicated would be in the next two weeks.
