Final steps taken to complete Sheffield's city centre walk

The last phase of Sheffield’s Five Weirs Walk opened this week, after almost 20 years in the making.
The five-mile path stretches from the city centre to the Meadowhall shopping centre, along the banks of the River Don. The opening went ahead, despite the recent theft of parapet cables from the Bailey and Cobweb Bridges.
Cllr Jan Wilson, leader of Sheffield City Council, said: ‘The completion of the Five Weirs Walk marks a culmination of more than 19 years of hard work by the trust and partners.
‘This is another excellent example of our city’s green heritage. The people of Sheffield can enjoy this magnificent walk in the heart of our city.’
