Final stage for tram plan

The final business case for the controversial Edinburgh tram scheme has been published.

City of Edinburgh Council staff have recommended to councillors that the business case be approved, which, they state, ‘reaffirms the viability of the tram in terms of economic viability, financial viability and affordability’, and shows that ‘expected benefits are shown to exceed costs’.

The proposed tram route will run from Newhaven to Edinburgh Airport and has been costed at £498M – below the £545M funding already allocated. The council was expected to make its decision this Thursday.
