Figures in land of fantasy

Government figures suggesting that up to 46,000 homes a year could be built in the Southeast over 20 years are based on ‘unproven fantasy,’ according to regional leaders.

The projections are contained in a report proposing higher-growth alternatives to the assembly’s South East Plan, ahead of November’s examination-in-public. Assembly chairman Cllr Keith Mitchell said it had built a high degree of consensus behind the plan’s annual limit of 28,900 homes. ‘This is back-of-the-envelope stuff compared with the robust evidence base developed by the assembly.’
