Liverpool’s cycling network will receive a £640,000 investment boost from the Northwest European Regional Development Fund.
The money will support Liverpool City Council’s cycling strategy project, which aims to overcome barriers preventing people from cycling into the city centre The project will involve the construction of seven new cycle routes, as well as facilities including cycle parking, crossings and signs.
The project aims to reduce journey times for cyclists, improve links with public transport, and provide a viable alternative to car use.
Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency, said: ‘This investment will help promote cycling as an affordable, convenient and environmentally-friendly way of getting around through improving Liverpool’s cycling infrastructure.’
