Essex plans the right way

Essex County Council is consulting its resident on a 10-year plan to improve the county’s public rights of way network.

The Rights of Way Improvement Plan looks at how footways, bridleways and byways are currently used, and opportunities for the future. The document is intended to mark a breakthrough for the county’s rights of way.

The council has already asked around 16,000 walkers, landowners, cyclists, horse riders and others about the kind of access they would like to the countryside. The poll found four out of five people (79%) regularly used rights of way in Essex.
