Councils this week began cleaning up after flooding, ice and snow wreaked havoc across the country. In Essex, the county council was on alert after severe flooding affecting major routes, such as the A12, A127 and A130.
The council joined with the Environment Agency and emergency services to tackle the floods.
Highways response teams have been dealing with road closures affecting all parts of the county, with dozens of road closures put in place by the emergency services as a result of the rain, with Chelmsford experiencing about a dozen temporary road closures, Braintree around 23, and Maldon nine.
Roads were also closed in Oxfordshire, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire and Sussex, while thousands of homes across Herefordshire and Worcestershire were left with out electricity.
