Environmental services help push local councils to further CPA success

The Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) 2006 found 79% of single-tier and county councils achieved three or four-star ratings, while no councils received the lowest zero-star rating.
The Audit Commission league table revealed a particular improvement in councils’ environmental services, with all councils achieving at least two out of four stars, and 84% performing in the top two categories. Recycling was especially singled out, with councils’ performance and user satisfaction showing an improvement. Michael O’Higgins, chairman of the Audit Commission, said: ‘Once again councils have demonstrated a desire and an ability to deliver better services for local people. ‘CPA has proved that it is possible for councils to make substantial improvements, year on year.’
