England squad bolster staff swept up in competition fever

Each of Leicester’s 19-strong fleet of sweepers bears the name and number of an England’s football squad player, in a bid to get the public behind the city’s clean team. The idea is part of a cleanup by the city council before judges from East Midlands in Bloom visit next month.
The £1.1M fleet, fleet consists of eight high-speed suction ‘green machines’, for use in the city centre and 12 larger-capacity sweepers for the city’s districts and parks. The machines were bought to replace the ageing fleet and are supplied and maintained by Applied Sweepers.
Classed as ‘mini-compact,’ the machines can be driven on a normal driving licence, unlike the council’s previous vehicles.
