Emissions battle takes root

Hull City Council is to plant 55,000 trees to help offset carbon emissions from its fleet of vehicles.
Fifty-five local, national and international companies regularly used by the city council’s fleet operations have signed up to the Fleet Carbon Sink Woodland project, promising to fund the purchase of 55,000 trees – 1,000 each – to be planted in Hull over the next 10 years. The first 1,000 trees will be planted this year, assisted through local community partnering activities, with a further 2,000 trees being planted in 2008 and thereafter until year 10 (2016).
